Panorama Of The Oceanfront at Virginia Beach, Virginia

If you are looking for a place to enjoy the sun, the sand, and the sea, look no further than the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. This 3-mile long promenade stretches along the oceanfront from Rudee Inlet to 40th Street and offers a variety of attractions, activities, and dining options for visitors of all ages and interests. Here are some of the best things to do at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.

Stroll, Bike, or Skate Along the Boardwalk

The boardwalk is 28 feet wide and features a separate bike path, making it ideal for strolling, biking, rollerblading, and skating. You can rent bikes and other equipment from several vendors along the boardwalk, or bring your own. As you cruise along, you will enjoy the scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the sandy beach, as well as the nautical sculptures that adorn many of the side streets. You will also encounter four oceanfront stages that host live musical acts during the summer months.

Visit the Iconic King Neptune Statue

One of the most popular photo opportunities on the boardwalk is the King Neptune statue, a 24-foot, 12-ton bronze sculpture that stands at the gateway to Neptune Festival Park on 31st Street. The statue depicts the mythical god of the sea holding his trident and a sea turtle, surrounded by dolphins, lobsters, and other marine creatures. The statue is a symbol of Virginia Beach’s connection to the ocean and its commitment to environmental protection.

Explore the Museums and Attractions

The boardwalk is home to several museums and attractions that showcase the history, culture, and nature of Virginia Beach. You can visit the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum, housed in a former U.S Life Saving Station, to learn about the heroic stories of coastal rescuers and surfers. You can also check out the Atlantic Wildfowl Museum, located in the historic DeWitt Cottage, to see exhibits of wildfowl art and carvings. If you are feeling adventurous, you can try indoor skydiving at iFly Virginia Beach or ziplining and climbing at The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium.

Enjoy the Food and Drinks

No trip to the boardwalk is complete without sampling some of the delicious food and drinks that are available at the many restaurants and cafes along the way. Whether you are in the mood for seafood, burgers, pizza, ice cream, or anything in between, you will find something to satisfy your taste buds. You can also enjoy a refreshing cocktail or a cold beer at one of the beachy bars that offer great views of the ocean and live entertainment.

Experience the Festivals and Events

The boardwalk is also a venue for many festivals and events that take place throughout the year in Virginia Beach. Some of the most popular ones include:

  • The Neptune Festival: A celebration of art, music, food, and fun that takes place every September. The highlight of this festival is the International Sand Sculpting Championship, where artists from around the world create amazing sand sculptures on the beach.
  • The Holiday Lights at the Beach: A dazzling display of Christmas lights that transforms the boardwalk into a winter wonderland every November and December. You can drive along the boardwalk or take a horse-drawn carriage ride to enjoy more than 50 festive scenes and 100 animated displays.
  • The Patriotic Festival: A tribute to America’s military heroes that takes place every June. This festival features concerts by national recording artists, military displays and demonstrations, and fireworks shows.
